ABOUT US

WCUW "The Talon" 101.3 FM is the campus radio station of Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon, Wisconsin. Broadcasting live from Albrecht 118 on the shores of Beautiful Lake Michigan, WCUW is a Non-profit and Student run radio station.

Concordia Radio began broadcasting in 1970 under the call letters WPAX on the bottom floor of one of the halls of Concordia College's Downtown Milwaukee campus on 31st Street between State St. and Highland St. The station began as a carrier current station on AM 590 with a broadcast range of 4 blocks.

In 1982, Concordia College Wisconsin moved to the former campus of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mequon, Wisconsin. The attractive campus stretches across 192 acres with a quarter of a mile of shoreline overlooking beautiful Lake Michigan. Concordia College Radio also moved 25 minutes north from their Milwaukee Studios to the Mequon campus in 1982, now broadcasting under the call letters WCCW on AM 640 from Rinker 017.

Construction on a state of the art studio was completed in 1986 and WCCW moved down the hall to in Heidelburg 010. The Heidelburg studios included two offices, two large studios, a common area, with two closets. This would be the home of Concordia Radio for 25 years.

In the August of 1989, Concordia College gained university status with the approval of the Board of Regents. With the switch from Concordia College to Concordia University, the radio station also changed call letters from WCCW to our current call letters WCUW.

Concordia University Radio switched over to the FM dial in the fall of 1996 moving from AM 640 to the current frequency of 101.3 FM. WCUW also began broadcasting on the closed circuit televisions on campus on Channel 9.

Construction on the new School of Pharmacy building was completed in the Summer of 2011. The construction of the new building forced WCUW to move to a temporary studio in Albrecht 102. They were only there for one year, as construction for the new student center began after the 2011-2012 school year.

30 years after moving to the Mequon campus, WCUW moved from Albrecht 102 to their 4th and current location on campus, Albrecht 118. The new studios consist of a station managers office, common area, and two studios.

Concordia University Radio celebrated our 45th anniversary during the 2015 school year. We've been blessed over the years with continued growth and support from faculty, staff, students, but most importantly, our listeners. Thank you for your continued support of Concordia's campus radio station.

We are WCUW "The Talon" 101.3 FM, Concordia University Radio.
